Please contact us for more information. | | | | | DONKEY SANCTUARY | A trip to Bonaire cannot be considered complete without stopping by and meeting the wonderful donkeys living in the island’s sanctuary. The ancestors of these animals were originally brought to the island as beasts of burden and to work in the great salt pans that form almost one quarter of Bonaire land mass. When machinery replaced the donkeys, they were set free to fend for themselves. The result was large herds of animals that far outnumbered the population. Today, there are a number of wild donkeys that still inhabit the Kunuku but the majority now enjoy life at the Donkey Sanctuary, where their needs are attended. Bring some fruit or bread along, and you will be making friends fast! | | | | | KUNUKU | Discover Bonaire's diverse flora in the beautiful, nature preserve of Rooi Lamoenchi.
