Spirit of Niugini is crewed by experienced local and international staff and her operations managed by people with long experience in cruise ships and hotel management who, needless to say, are themselves dedicated divers. The boat is 35 meters long and conceived and built to meet the needs of a serious diver who demands a superior level of accommodation and lifestyle. She has been specifically designed for tropical living with air-conditioned and open-air lounges and a sun deck for guests to enjoy the fresh air of the tropical seas. A great deal of attention to details went into the design and construction of the staterooms and living areas to ensure that those on board enjoy a fine style of living. Twin, 1250 HP engines effortlessly provide for flexible and extensive charter itineraries, allowing divers to fully experience some of Papua New Guineas finest diving in comfort and safety. Sixteen guests can be accommodated on the boat in eight staterooms. Two double and two twin cabins are on the main deck, 2 twin cabins on the forward lower deck and 2 more twin cabins on the aft lower deck, all with private head and shower. All rooms are fitted with standard queen or twin sized beds, carpeted and tastefully furnished. Facilities include piped-in music, reading lights, wardrobe, hair-dryer and plenty of storage space. The main lounge is fully air-conditioned and is fitted with large panoramic windows. The lounge serves as the vessel living room, theater and dining-room. A complete “home-entertainment” center is also available. The upper deck houses the wheelhouse and a second air-conditioned lounge that serves as a photography station and a library. The covered open-air area occasionally functions as an alfresco dining room with barbecue facilities. The forward open-air sitting area serves as a sun-bathing platform and is a perfect place to watch the sun go down into the ocean blue. The dive deck is thoughtfully laid out and twin staircases provide for easy access to the water. Diving activities are supported by two electric air-compressors, a 4,500-psi air bank storage system and hyperfiltration system producing grade “D” breathing air with 4 fill hoses and two 4.70 meters R.I.Bs with 40 H.P outboards. Nitrox, through a DNAx system (32% 02 mix) is available as an option to qualified divers. Apart from a full day of diving there are many after-dive activities for both divers and non-divers to enjoy, ranging from exploring uninhabited islands, sea kayaking, to just making the most of a restful afternoon on a quiet beach. Though catering for the serious diver, the Spirit of Niugini can also provide a wonderful experience for the whole family. Photographs courtesy of Tawali Adventures
